Breast cancer awareness has been high in the recent years and for good reason. It’s one that can be detected through regular screening. Well then, at what age must women start screening for breast cancer?

The center for disease control and prevention (CDC) recommends that women with an average risk must do so once they hit 50. If one feels that she would like to be cautious due a higher risk, screening from 40 years of age is advised. If a parent, sibling or child has been diagnosed with breast cancer, then one is at a higher risk and it’s advisable to begin at 40’s. Getting a mammogram earlier than that would have to be discussed with your doctor to understand the effects of radiation versus the benefit of such screening.
