Depression and cancer


What can be done for cancer related to depression?


Cancer can be a life changing event and therefore it is not uncommon for people fighting cancer through experience anxiety and depression. A study conducted by Yale revealed that people with pre cancer or post cancer depression were less likely to receive end of life care if needed than those who did not have depression. Proper diagnosis of depression is needed as previous treatment showed an increased incidence of depression in patients with cancer when compared to people without it. There are estimates that about 15 - 50% of cancer patients suffer from depression symptoms. And this can have adverse affects on one’s quality of life and treatment outcomes.
